The best way to diagnose Mareks is after death with a necrospy. The lab will test the feather shafts and any tumor tissue found on the necropsy. Several people have posted that a few labs will accept blood or a feather from a live bird and test it, but there are false negatives reported. So if you spend the money on a test that is sent off, and it comes back negative, it still could be Mareks. But it is up to you if your vet is willing or knows where to get the testing done. Only certain labs do testing, and my state vet in Ohio said that they even send the test samples off to another lab.

Yeah, if he dies we will take him to the state lab for necropsy, it's not an option. We need to know if it's a reportable disease.
