Rooster tails

You might just put him in a dog container for a while. Once the feathers get established, I would think they would be fine. I have had hens do this to my rooster, two roosters ago, but with the long skinny feathers near the head, and beard and muff area. He seemed to take it as his due, as if they were grooming him.

That is exactly what is happening! He just sits there with out any problem, and they definitely pick on the saddle feathers the most and once theyre gone then they pretty much stop but since his last month they've been picking at all the new ones coming in. He just cant catch a break. I've considered seperating them but with all the hawks while free ranging id sadly rather have my rooster out then my hens in danger err more danger :/ or without protection I should say.

I have 12 breeds all together and all the ones that pick at his tail are sadly different breeds.
I've definitely tried entertainment! I hang fruit every day, have a mirror, a swing, burry corn and sunflower seeds, spread them under trees in the leaves, hang cabbage or lettuce or squash. Aswell as having a hanging bottle with beads in it to keep them busy they love it! I also have a piano and one of those wooded bead toys for little kids, and a kitty pool. They're somehow still bored
:( My other coop barely has any toys and no feather picking :/

Give your dude some ground up rice & peas to boost his feather-aiding amino acid intake Make this addition a part of his 10% treat ration as it will reduce his overall protein intake, but the loss there is more than made up for by the particular amino acids he needs for fast, strong feathers. You could actually offer this as a treat for your whole flock, as they might be picking on him to gain those same amino acids.
Thank you! I will definitely try this!
