Okay, in April we bought two Rhode Island Red chicks. One of them didn't make it. The remaining bird has grown up to be really big, and I swear, he is a rooster. He? has a huge comb, giant feet and legs, curled tail feathers, and other signs of being a rooster. I am still wondering about his gender because he hasn't crowed yet. He is completely quiet. Any thoughts or suggestions out there? -Craig

But one chicken is a lonely chicken.... you need more!

I have a Ameraucana rooster that does not crow. All his brothers crow. Maybe he is not sure what he is.

Does he have long green-black tail feathers? Then it's probably a roo. I started out with 2, and 1 never crowed. "Gimpy" had a much better temperment than his brother- don't know if the crowing had anything to do with it.
