Fellow Ayam Cemani keepers....what ratio of hens to roosters do you keep? My birds free range every other day and stay in their run on off days. Side question: how would you compare your rooster on rooster aggression compared to other breeds? Thanks!

I have had two AC Roos. They were both good as juveniles, then one turned and started attacking, first my teens, then me, then DH, then we ate him. (We May have butchered him in sight of his brother) Anyway, his brother is about 2.5 now and is pretty decent on the aggression scale. He does follow my daughter around, but she is the only one- I even have littler kids over often that he is just fine with, so I don’t know why he doesn’t like my daughter. We now have 20 hens ( different breeds), the AC roo and a white leghorn roo. There was occasional fighting when I had the two AC Roos together but the AC and the white leghorn seem to be pretty chill with each other. This ratio seems to be working well for us, there are the “favorite” hens that show a little wear on their backs but for the most part everyone looks good.

I know this is extremely late and you’ve probably already solved this problem I’m replying because this comes up when you search about ayam cemani roosters

I’ve found at least with my chickens that a 1:3 ratio has worked fine. We raised our two ac roos together with one girl (they were all 1 day old) and now they’ve been introduced to a flock of 5 other hens. Our roosters cuddle every night with their girl and I think starting with the 2:1 roo to hen ratio may have helped them not be aggressive to hens or eachother.
