I wanted to give this old post a bump up.
I just eyeballed this pattern and made it and it worked great...I made it a little to wide but snugged it up in the front by putting a piece of bale twine inbetween the wind holes in front of the neck.
The other chickens acted like there was a strange animal in the coop...the pullet wearing the saddle kept hiding...within 30 minutes or so they calmed down..hope she survives.
I was trying to figure out which holes were the "wind" holes.... lol. duh.
Glad you bumped this up, gonna try it tomorrow. No sewing! Hope I can get it to fit well and be comfortable. I am not much of a seamstress and havent used a sewing machine since highschool, but I wouldnt mind hand stitching a couple if I had to.
I have been keeping my hens apart from the roos for a bit, like a adjoining run, or put the hens in the tractor, but I let the roo watch over his girls. So far everyone is pretty happy about it. As close as they are to their flock mates, it seems only right to keep them "together" but not together. lol.
also, do the saddles change the roos behavior at all? do they hang onto the neck more or become awkward at mating?
