Rooster Trouble

Hi All
My friends family is moving away and giving me there flock of chickens including one Polish rooster. I’ve have my own flock with a ameracauna rooster for awhile now. With all the hens there will be 21 hens with 2 rooster. Is it safe to keep them all together? Is the ratio of hens to roosters enough. Will they still fight to the death like I’ve read articles about? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

1 rooster to 10 hens is a good ratio. Chickens are just like people. Some get along, some don't. You will just have to wait and see if they do get along.

Like Cayuga momma said, just do it and wait and see. I usually only keep one rooster, but have had four before with with way less hens and had no probs, no fighting, no over breeding, dominate roo kept them in line behaving with no probs.

I don’t know your setup. Is there anyway you could have pens next to each other so they could see each other yet not have direct contact? Just for a while so they could safely get to know each other?
Having a new flock mixed straight away with your established flock there will be a ruckus esp for roosts at night in the coop. I think a little pre-planning and monitoring would be good. They will definitely restructure the pecking order. Make sure to watch for individuals who cause serious injuries. We wish you luck. Keep us posted.

What are the dimensions of your coop and run? Are you sure you have enough room to add to your current flock?

I have had it go both ways, some will some wont get along.

Look, there is no formula or ratio 2 roosters can fight and most likely will depending on character

I have 2 roos each with their own set of hens integration successful at first till one decided he didn't want the other around and attacked him

They are both good roosters to the hens and me but won't get along now bc one won't cooperate

So my ratio was 1 roo to 18 hens and they still fought so you can try it just remember my story is a possibility

Also the hens are used to their roo and are a family so if you take one roo away that can leave them vulnerable and not wanting the new roo
And when a hen doesn't want the roo she will scream and run which makes the roo mad and chases her down so...

My chickens are free rangers and the coop is an old horse stall/lean to converted into a coop for them.
I moved them from my previous 12 chicken coops so I would have room.
