Rooster wanted!!

Hi I am in need of a Rooster. I have 19 Hens and I have lots of predators around like Fox's, hawk's and Raccoons. I need a good Rooster that's about 7 Months to year old. If you have one for sale or know where to get one please tell me. (I live in Maryland).

Your very best bet for predator protection is an electric fence. All the rooster can do it be the first one to die.

Now, if you are looking to hatch your eggs and get chicks... that's a different story, an electric fence won't help you one bit there. But if your goal is to protect your chickens, get an electric fence.

Roosters dont protect hens from preditors..a gun is what you need or a guard dog

Roosters can protect from an occasional predator, but they can't be your flock's only defense.

Head hens will warn of danger just as well as a rooster.

What is the goal in getting a rooster? Some but not all will put up a fight allowing the ladies to run for it. Some are just an easy meal.

Most of the time in a fight or flight situation a rooster will choose self preservation.

I know I would too.

I know they won't protect the hens from predators all the time (I have geese to do that) but neighbors a Roosters that visits my hens and I am worried that they are slowly becoming part of his flock!
