Rooster with a sore throat???

@Tall timber chickens , It's not unusual for virus to infect flocks this time of year. Part of it has to do with bird migration and the other part has to do with stress caused by differing weather conditions especially if there are fast changes in temperature going back and forth. It weakens their overall health and makes them more susceptible to catching something from over head flying birds.
Don't worry about the birds not doing well in winter. Regardless of what conditions they are raised in most chickens do quite well in cooler weather as long as they have a place to get out of drafts and cold north and west wind.
The breeds you have are not known for being strong ones and will be a little less resistant to disease than some others. But they are cute, Right? Your best bet is to get some oregano oil and put a drop or two in their water every day. It works great as an antibiotic as well as a probiotic. You should however separate your rooster from your other birds until he is better and watch the others for disease. Some of these viruses have a one day infection rate and others may not infect the other birds for 2-3 weeks. Another thing you can do to improve their health is to give them poultry vitamins, and or give them as much fresh produce as you can afford. No moldy food, no citrus fruit, and no potato or avocado peelings.
If the chickens' health declines I'd be glad to help you find the right medications to treat them.
Good luck with your birds.

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! A picture of your coop would help us help you. Also a video of your rooster trying to crow would be helpful. Does he have runny eyes or nose?
