No improvement. Still just laying in one place. Was really hoping that the SubQ fluids would re-hydrate him enough for him to perk up and want to eat. But it hasnt. Dont know what else to do......

Thanks everyone for the help with my situation with my Roo! Sorry to say I had to end his suffering this afternoon. It was one of the hardest things Ive ever had to do. But I believe it was for the best. He had lost just about all his body weight, even tho I had been hand feeding him eggs and yogurt. Breathing through his mouth and his respirations were very swallow and seemed to struggle to get a breathe. I do have a few questions. Before I had to do the deed I had him laying on a bale of hay getting myself prepared to do it. And I come back to the barn and one of my horses was standing there licking my Roo's face. There was some discharge coming from the Roos nose. I am concerned with the infection that he had, that now my horse is contaminated. Should I be worried? And also, after the deed was done, there was a lot of clear to off white discharge with white flecks in it pouring out of his nose. It smelled awful. Was that the infection? Or just what was that? Anyone with experience with this please chime in. Thanks everyone. This has been a hard day for me.

I'm so sorry to hear that; it's always awful when you have to put a beloved pet down, but it was likely for the best. It's very likely that he got a secondary infection of some sort while he was sick; it happens commonly with many illnesses. I'm not sure if you should be concerned for your horse or not, somebody else may know better, but make sure to dispose of him well away from the rest of your birds so you don't risk the staph spreading to them; burning him would likely be best likely.

I wish things had gone better, but sometimes your best efforts just aren't enough.

But it can also be taken as a learning experience to make you a better poultry-keeper as well.
