Hi everyone. Thanks for reading and helping if you can. I have read many of the "broken leg" posts and the suggestions for splinting, giving rest, extra protein etc. I'm not sure if it's worth trying since it has been several days.
3 nights ago something scared my rooster and he flew into our huge blackberry brambles. Huge as in 50' wide and 200' long. I've been hacking my way through to get him since the following morning and finally got him today. His leg is completely broken in two, with some dried blood above the break, but no bone sticking out. It is located above the first joint up from his "ankle". His foot just kinda flops around so I am worried about correct alignment if I try to splint it.
I know this sounds a bit harsh, but I really just don't have the money for a vet. I wish I did, but... So, with that said, is it worth trying to splint? Will I be able to save his leg? If I can't I will probably have to do the humane thing and put him down, because I know the other rooster will beat him up, and that's no way to live.
Thanks for your input,
