I have a rooster that's around 4 months old that started limping 4 days ago. His toes on one foot are now completely curled under and he walks on the back of his toes. There are no obvious injuries (no swelling or discoloration, etc.); it appears to look just like his other foot. Other than keep him in a pet carrier to limit his mobility, what suggestions do you have? I have searched through several websites and forums and can't find anything that seems to offer help in this particular case. Most foot/leg problems apply to either very young chicks or are applicable only if both feet are affected. TIA for any ideas you may have!

Nuts! I wish I had seen your post before deciding to splint his foot.

My husband and I cleaned his foot a while ago, then soaked it in epsom salts with frankincense and lavender oils. I noticed that the two joints of his middle toe are knobby, but the whole toe isn't swollen. Although it doesn't appear to be broken, I decided to treat it as a broken toe and taped his foot to a piece of cardboard. His Achilles tendon is fine, and I don't believe it's a vitamin B12 deficiency, as that would affect both feet, from what I've read. I crushed up a tiny bit of a B complex pill and added it to his water anyway, as I figured it shouldn't hurt. If you look at a picture of chicks with that particular problem, that's exactly how he holds his foot all curled up. Thanks for your reply!
