We were asked to take in a rooster and hen that had been shown for a fair. We did. No idea what breed but they look like buffs but have furry feet and are big. The hen laid eggs when we first got her and stopped now for over a month. Any idea why? They do not roost and she laid her eggs on the ground. The rooster feet froze last winter and he had no claws. We call him thumper because he flops his feet to walk. On him my question is it seems like he can't have sex with any of our chickens. Which is great in or book. Do you think he can't get the girls because he can't grab them? One more thing will they survive we're in northern Minnesota and them sitting on the cold ground seems like a death sentence? Our others roost.

Are they in a coop? Do you have any bedding on the floor? If you do they can do okay. Maybe he does roost because he’s unsteady in his feet?
Yes coop and bedding but coop is off the ground. I use wood chips maybe straw would be better?
