I am quite new to the world of raising chickens. I have 5 chickens which I am told are Plymouth rocks. One of the chickens is much larger than the rest, has yellow legs (but no spurs) longer tail feathers and has a longer neck. It is about 5 months old and this morning started to crow. I am not allowed to keep a rooster where I live, but do not want to get rid of a hen needlessly.

Sorry for the bad news, but that's a rooster. See how the white is the more dominant color? Very little black wash down the legs and crowing? It's a roo. The spurs often don't develop until about a year.

But welcome to BYC anyway!

Thank you for your help. Now I can get rid of it in good conscience. What a shame

I really do fall in love with all of my chickens.

Barred Rocks are wonderful birds, but find him a good home and be happy with that! He's quite handsome.
