rooster with scaly leg

One of my roosters has scaly leg. He's had it for a while, but not it seems like he's limping.

How do you treat it?

That could be scaly leg mites.....For that, you take some vasceline, and mix a little bit of Seven dust (or poultry dust) in it, and slather it on the leg, twice a day. Not only will it make his leg feel better, it will kill the little mites that are under the scales.....

An old timer told me this. Works wonders!

Gosh that's so much easier than what we did!

We gave them a mini-bath, just legs (told them it was a mani-pedi, LOL) & scrubbed the legs with a toothbrush gently. When done, we painted their legs with a vegetable oil that had a drop or two of tea tree oil in it. Picked that idea up here - but I like yours even better!

My understanding is you want to "seal" the legs so the critters suffocate (kind of like when people get Chiggers on them and paint over it with nail polish)

I heard a good thorough rub of vegetable oil works, too (anything oily really). The sevin or some poutry dust doesn't hurt, of course.
