Hello. I have a rooster that gradually started limping one day on his right leg. Eventually his hock started to swell up. His swelling was decreasing over the course of a few weeks as well as his limping. It seemed like he was recovering very well. His limping started again all of a sudden and now his left foot pad seems to be swelling up a little. I was wondering if anyone had an idea what he may have. I'm not sure if this is a genetic thing or a disease he received. Thank you for your time.

Welcome To BYC

Can you post some photos of your rooster, his legs and feet? (bottom of feet too)
How old is he?
What do you feed including treats?
Thank you.

He is about 10 months old.
He is a free range rooster. I spread out a combination of starter feed (which is mainly high in protein) and a grain combination including cracked corn, milo and whole oats.

I only got the bottom of his left foot.

I'm not sure what's going on with the joint. Could he have injured it at some point?
You can try warm compress on the joint to see if that helps.
If vet care is an option , that would be good.

For the foot, looks like there's a plug of debris or poop stuck in the web of the foot. Soak the foot for around 10 minutes in a warm epsom salts bath, then see if you can work that out. It make take a bit of time, I don't think it's a Bumblefoot scab, just a hardened plug.
Wash the foot pad well too and see if some of the debris crust will come off. Don't pull hard, just work it. See what's underneath all that. If the tissue looks good or is inflamed.
Take some photos once you've done that and we'll see if anything else needs to be done with the foot.

I may have an idea what may be the problem with the joint, but I'm not too sure. I had him separated from the hens for a while so he couldn't breed with them. Once I let him be with the hens, he had a burst of excitement and ran to every hen to do his business. He may have been way too eager and hurt himself. I believe this is the same day he gradually started limping. He did occasionally put his beak to the bottom of his right foot. I was also thinking he may have stepped on something sharp and it affected the joint somehow from the way his beak was being there. I'm just giving out possibilities.

I'll try to see what I am able to do. Thank you for the advice.
