I had a very expensive Serama rooster shipped to me a week ago. He arrived with a prolapsed vent. The seller tells me he left in perfect condition and has never had this problem before. I've tried soaks, pushing prolapse back in... it comes back out in seconds.. I attempt to keep clean but urates drip from it all day... is there any hope after a whole week of fighting this, that it will ever resolve? I've used honey, ointments, vetrycin.... I love the guy and want to see him well again.

I don't buy the sellers story about perfect condition! Just look at all the broken feathers. :duc

Can you post a photo of the whole bird and one showing the prolapse with him standing there? A full visual will be helpful for me to better understand the gravity of the situation. :fl

How old is this boy? Was the seller NPIP certified? Are they offering any remedy?

He is one year old. The broken feathers are from me cutting them off because they were so caked in urates. It was like chunks of chalk hanging from his feathers. I'll get a picture of his whole body. And he does come from an NPIP certified and well known breeder 20190527_092217.jpg 20190527_092208.jpg . The seller says he will refund or replace but I do love this boy and want to help him be well.

Beautiful boy! Can you clean him up more and post new close up pictures of his prolapse?

If I had to guess I would say that the prolapse was caused by dehydration/constpation, coccidiosis, worms, bacterial infection, or a combination of those. What do you have in the way of medications?

Can you post a picture of his poop?

That's as good ad I can get it. It bleeds some when you clean it. The yellow/white you see on the right side of the prolapse is a solid plate like structure that does not come off ever no matter how much soaking or cleaning. It feels like a scab. I can out this prolapse in and the roo will let it be until I set him down and then he immediately pushes it back out.

His poops are tiny dry solid brown poops. They look like rat poop more than chicken poop. I've given him scrambled eggs soaked in mineral oil as well as molasses in his water yet they remain very dry and solid like this. He has to exert a lot of pressure to expel them.

Oh and I can get about any medication at the farm store if you have suggestions.
I would like to hear what others have to say, but if he were mine i would treat for worms with Safeguard liquid for goats, coccidiosis with Corid or Baycox, and a bacterial infection with Baytril.
