Just yesterday, I noticed that my rooster, Reggie, was only facing everything with one side. When I looked at his right side, I saw that all around his eye was very swollen, and looked pretty bad. He's acting otherwise normal, and CAN blink. The eye itself doesn't seem to be injured, maybe just under it. I don't know if it's infected, or what I should do!

He has either been pecked around his head and eye, or he could possibly have fowl pox. Do you have another rooster or is he being pecked by the chickens? I would separate him in a dog crate with food and water, but where he can still be near the other chickens. Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel from the feedstore may help his eye, applied inside it twice a day, especially if it is pox. Does the other side of his face look like that?

The other side of his face is fine, which is why I suspect trauma. I don't have any other roosters that would bully him, and I'm pretty certain it's trauma. It almost seemed like there was a gash under his eye. Thank you for the advice though.

He could be sick, and the hens are picking on him, as they can do when another flock member is felt to be weak or failing. The dog crate could help him for a few days, while you fifure out what is going on. We had a young rooster once who had something wrong with his leg, and the others pecked him where before he had been their idol. I hope he gets along okay.

Hello! Your rooster has fowl pox. It comes from mosquitos. There's not much you can do. It just has to run its course. Once he recovers, he won't get it again. It's possible your whole flock could get this. Usually they get through it. Years ago I had a flock that had fowl pox. They did ok. I did provide some vitamins and electrolites in their water.
