Rooster won't leave broody hens side

We have some younger chickens, and one of the hens is broody, she doesn't leave the coop unless you force her.... but the rooster we have doesn't leave her side... is this normal behavior?

As long as he's not mean to her, yes, yes it is normal.

He might think that something is wrong with her, or just likes that hen.

You never know, he might want to be a father as well.

If he is not mean, then let him be. If he is, consider something different.

Yes, some roosters do show an interest in incubating eggs and rearing chicks. @centrarchid has roosters that he calls "broody roosters" that do this.

Maybe he'll stop by and tell you about it. Or you can give him a shout-out and ask.

Yep, pretty common to see them providing a 'supporting role'...some more than others.
Wow, easy to anthropomorphize that one!

Have seen cock/erel sit near a newly laying hen the first few times she lays.
My first adult cockbird sat in a nest for 30 minutes vocalizing when I first brought the flock home to show them where to lay,
he never did it again.

Do you plan on letting the 'broody' set eggs?

We are hoping so, it should be a fun adventure. Definitely a first for us though!
