Rooster?

I have a cuckoo muran that I was told was a rooster when I got him. He should be about 7-8 months old now, he has matured I believe since his comb and wattles have grown alot this past month and turned bright red. Only he does not crow (not complaining about that part) nor does he "service" the hens or act protective of them. He just kind of roams around and does his own thing....

I have had a muran hen and can definately tell by looking at him that he isn't a hen, only why doesn't he act like a rooster? My hens do not respect him much, but I think it is because of his lack of demanding respect... or what not...

If I didn't know better I would say by his behavior and demeanor that he is a hen. Do I have a defective rooster? How old should he start demonstrating his manliness to the hens?

Do you have another rooster around? From what I've read, the most dominant rooster is usually the only one who crows. If the lesser roos crow or mate, it's seen as a challenge to the top rooster. (which would probably get him a beating)

Orphy - could be he is just slow to mature and your girls might have already "schooled" his young self to respect them. When he is ready, he will let you and them know.

Ok, he is the only roo. I didn't want more than one making a fuss and fighting.

Just wasn't sure if he would ever do his "rooster duties" LOL.

By the time my cuckoo Marans are that old they are crowing away and doing "their duty".

How long should it go before I need to worry? He is already almost 8 months old and the only rooster around, do they ever decide not to be roosterly?
