I have a question, I know a rooster is nessesary if you want fertile eggs, but I was wondering is it nessesary for a hen to lay a lot of eggs. I wanna buy 12 hens but I really don't want a rooster since I don't want any fertile eggs, would this be a good idea or would they need a rooster to produce the maximum capacity of eggs?
Thanks in advance!

rooster has no bearing on the amount of eggs you will get. I bought 12 chicks and when they got into the full swing of laying i was getting a dozen eggs a day. I bought black sex link and red sex link and Delawares

I agree with everyone else. My first small flock did not include a rooster and they layed everyday without an issue. I have a rooster now but not by choice (He was suppose to be a pullet). All he does he crow and chase tail. He is very pretty but a pain sometimes. Out of my 10 hens, the eggs I eat only about half have the red spot.
