I AM SO NEW I DON'T HAVE ANY CHICKENS YET. MY QUESTION IS MUST YOU HAVE A FULL TIME ROOSTER IN YOUR COOP FOR CHICKENS TO LAY.

Nope, you don't need a rooster for you hens to lay. The only thing that most roosters are used for are breeding. The roosters will fertilize the eggs. But without a rooster they won't be fertilized. Hens will lay either way. Welcome to BYC!

Roosters have absolutely nothing to do with egg laying. Now, if you want FERTILE eggs that will hatch to make more chickens, a rooster is required. If you are allowed to have roosters where you live, I recommend having one. They are so pretty and make a good flock protector and warning system when predators threaten the coop.

A hen doesn't need a rooster to lay eggs she will lay them no matter what.If you want the eggs to be fertile then you would need a rooster.

thank all of you i did not expect so many responses soon so.
