At least one of our chicks is probably a rooster, which has got me remembering the roosters of my childhood. We had this big leghorn named Fred who used to always chase us kids over the fence. But he would do the funniest thing, he would start scratching and pecking at the ground but then sort of casually sidle towards you, like, "Nothing to see here, just looking for bugs ..." [whistling] and then when he got close he'd attack like "haha bet you didn't see *that* coming!" But he was so intensely bad at it, it was so very obvious what he was going to do that my sister and I always knew to get out of his way! Is that like a rooster thing or was it just Fred? Having never owned a rooster as an adult I really have no idea.
But anyway, curious based on the vast experience of all the chicken owners on here, what percent of roosters would you say turn out to be jerks like Fred and how many do you think turn out to be mostly fine? I don't care if he's friendly or not, I just don't want him chasing my kids over the fence!
