I have 3 roosters and about 20 hens. I have 1 barred rock hen and I believe she is head chicken. Anyway, her back between her feathers is down to skin and bleeding. Plus her butt is red and raw. I think the roosters are using and abusing her too often. I have removed her from the flock and put her in a nice big crate with food and water and I am thinking of adding blu kote to help her heal. What can I do to keep her safe after I introduce her back to the flock? Do you think once she is missing for a while they will leave her alone when she comes back? None of my other hens have any issues. Thanks for any advice you can lend.

I have never heard of saddeling them. i will look into that.

Getting rid of 1 or 2 roosters is not out of the question. It is just that they are golden polishes and really fun to look at. We also make all animals part of the family and it is hard to say goodbye especially when people don't seem to want roosters around.

We also have 5 eight week old chicks. i seriously hope they are all hens since we are attached to them. We hatched them for my daughter's 3rd grade science fair project. they have little mohawks.....so cute.

I got mine from a lady here on BYC but for the life of me can't remember who it was
