Rooster's being agressive with other hens help!UPDATE!read and reply!

i know other people have had their rooster attack another hen but has anyone had their rooster attack one of his favorite hens? and i mean attack viciously. if fact so vicious that she bleeds on her neck or back a little? and he hasn't been vicious to us, or any other hen. has anyone heard of this or had their rooster do this? if you read this and you've heard of this please post a reply!!!!

I'm a first time chicken herder this year, so not much experience to speak from. But I don't think I would have much trouble butchering a rooster that was that mean.

I completely relate and frankly I don't think it'll get any better.

One of our roos has a favorite hen and he's rough with her. He is only 6.5 months old and already chases her down to do his business. He has 28 hens to choose from, but he LOVES this particular hen. She has already losing feathers on her back (and neck) and I was about to make her a saddle. Before I could get a saddle made for her, the roo had already ripped her side open (under the wing). He doesn't even have spurs yet! She is now inside as she heals for who knows how long. We had already had to teach him that we are top roo (visit Gritsar's member page on Rooster Reform!!), but he is still rough. His second favorite hen is already losing feathers and has some scratches. As much as we love him, I think his days are getting numbered. Overly rough roos can slice hens open (like mine) and even scalp hens!

I'd try Gritsar's Rooster Reform (to establish your dominance with him) and if that doesn't help, then maybe he needs to be rehomed or permanently separated.

Sorry I haven't posted for awhile but we are super happy because he is alot better now. He hasn't been attacking her but we did find that for us separating them made it worse. For example, they were doing good and then we separated them for a while and he attacked her again. but now like I said he alot better and
we are happy we still have our roo. So thanks for all of your help!

I've been having boy troubles too.Certain ones are plucking tails soo bad they're bald and bleeding. Our next call is get them gone or kill them.I don't want this to happen but, it's to save the lives of my other birds.

I didn't know they would do this sort of thing when we first got them and we've learned the hard way. We've seperated them for a day or two & they'll behave for a day or 2 when let out & then it happens again! No it won't usually won't stop once they start and you may have a very unwanted tradgedy one morning.Just keep in mind they have those canibal tendencies.Good luck!

I had an orp roo (note had) he jump one of my hens so hard he broke her, no seriously broke her. And every chance he got he would rip her feathers and scalp bald.
We now call her Crackie, because she looks like she was cracked to the side, shes okay, shes eats drinks poos and she also lays well. As for the roo hes in the freezer.
