Suddenly our rooster became ill and today he is worse. He is weakened and has some loss of feathers through scratching around his neck and his comb and crop today are droopy and grey/black. Could it be a digestive issue, lack of something or internal parasites? He is difficult to handle. I would like suggestions as to what he might need to regain his strength and vitality, if possible. Thank you.

I’m so sorry. Could be a heart issue, as that is indicative of a lack of oxygen. @Shadrach once had a rooster with a comb that was turning bluish/purplish/blackish and he recovered with care, as I recall. Shad, I don’t remember what you did to help him. Do you have any advice?

A picture would be helpful.
I've had three roosters with symptoms similar to what you describe. None lived for much longer.
The medical text books might suggest nitrate poisoning/heart failure/liver damage/other internal organ problems.
One died within two days. The other two I euthaniised when it was quite apparent that they could no longer eat or drink.
I'm sorry I do not have anything more encouraging to write.

Definitely need pics...and.....
