Rooster's comb is torn

Hi..sorry no pics, something got ahold of our roo's comb, the very back end of it is torn (blood was on his feathers), it's still attached by I guess 1/4 inch to the comb..almost like if you had an earring pulled out of your ear and have a split in the ear lobe. It is not bleeding now. Poured hydrogen peroxide on it, tried giving him some of the tetracyl stuff and that rooster booster brand Poultry Cell. What else can / should I do? Should I take him to the vets to have the end cut off? Last roo w/ a comb injury passed away due to infection even after a vet visit w/ meds. He was walking around the yard just fine. I would put some neosporin on it, and let him heal. My roo had a torn comb due to fighting....I rinsed it, and off he went..all better now...healed just fine.
