Roosters in a mixed flock

In a mixed flock, do roosters show a preference towards hens of their same breed?

Do they tend to have "favorites" among the hens or distribute their affection relatively equally among the ladies?

In our experience they do choose their favorites, but they don't have to be the same variety. We've noticed the rooster that clucks loud and shares food the best usually ends up with the most hens following him.
