Hello, our neighbors in fort myers ( 33908 zip code to be specific) have 2 roosters that make noise starting at 530am. These neighbors also have chickens which we don't mind but the roosters are making my life he'll. I have tried talking to my neighbor about this and he was not willing to have the conversation. I am unsure what to do at this point. My young children are being awoken from their naps and that does not make mama very happy. Does anyone know if roosters are permitted in this area? TIA

I would contact your local officials. If the roosters are legal and your neighbor keeps them, you could try playing white noise (or other sleeping sounds) while you and your kids sleep so that you can’t hear the roosters.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

A quick google search indicates that roosters are not allowed, however most postings seem to be outdated. The following link indicates that even hens are subject to nuisance laws..

https://www.cityftmyers.com/Documen...&text=i.,or multi-family residential property.

Call animal control AND code enforcement (to get an accurate answer from more than one person) and ask about the animals and any noise ordinance that may be in place..

Where I'm at, even though roosters and other animals are allowed.. that all goes out the window if a neighbor takes issue and complains.

Best wishes for peace and rest! :fl

Thank you kindly for your research and response. The only issue I'm finding with Google is that I am not in city limits, technically. I live in a neighborhood where the distances between homes is roughly 75 - 100 ft it is very much residential just unsure about not being in city limits. Everything I read pertains to the city.

I made a call to code enforcement but not animal control - thank you for the suggestion. They will be next!

I love your username 💜 and thank you for the suggestion. Why not give it a try 😊

Haven't they ever offered you eggs? Many times, in residential areas, when someone has chickens and a rooster or more, whether legal or not, generally, a dozen eggs is given as a peace token every couple of weeks to help ease the tension with a neighbor(s) that's having to put up with them.

If they haven't even bothered, well, then, how about if you get a rooster and a couple of hens too? Like if you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

If you own your place, you can get sound board to put up in the kids' rooms that musicians use for their home studios. I checked it out years ago regarding two macaw parrots we have that can get up pretty early too. We bought a solid oak door that helps too, and one of these for under it.

Sound proofing the children's rooms could be a safety hazard. If I'm the mom I want to be sure I can hear my children if they cry.

Oh you would. Trust me, all this sounds great, but we can still hear our parrots.

Besides, they make baby monitors too. These parrots are in my office so when I'm done and leave, I wouldn't have any desire to use one of those lol.
