Hello - I have two 17 week old chicks (not sure if they're still considered chicks at 17 weeks..) which i raised from one week who have me slightly confused..
First is a lavender orpington who I thought was a rooster since week 6 when it made a crowing sound when my full grown rooster would. Since then I've been told on facebook it's not a rooster but a hen. Would love another opinion - I'm pretty sure it's a rooster, just slow at developing maybe.
Second is a silkie I was told on facebook again is a rooster, has never crowed but I did catch it yesterday mimicking the hens in the other coop when they were doing their egg laying song.
Both 17 weeks.
