I'm new.just got 8 14 week old hens and an adult rooster. Every one is new to eachother and the new coop. all of the hens sleep inside the house but the rooster sleeps in the yard on the ground. Is this normal?

A bit like a hen house party and one guy, great the first night but...

Seriously if the Roo is adult and the hens are only 14 weeks, they should not be treaded or fed layers just yet. The reason for this is that the girls vents will not be mature enough to deliver a whole egg. I had this issue with a 24 week old Cochin white hen. Noticed by a hernia type protrusion from the bottom. You have to either help it out gently or make the vent opening bigger. So don't get the hens laying too soon.

There is nothing to worry about the Roo staying outside, except for predators.

My rooster is the same age/younger, but he roosts with my girls. He even covers them with his wings sometimes.

I'd say give him a little time and they'll sleep together.
