Roosters or hens?

I have two silkies (out of 10) that were born in February. Of the 10 I know for sure than one is a rooster (he crows all of the time). I had assumed that the other 9 were hens. It has been bitterly cold (in the minus single digits) the last four days and I have kept the chickens in their coop with a heat lamp. They showed no desire to go outside when I left their coop door open. When I went to put them to bed night before last, it looked like a blood bath! Two of them had been fighting and their heads were bloody messes. Neither one of them has ever crowed so I have just assumed they were hens. Now I don't know. Since neither of them have shown any signs of aggression before, I figured it was because of them being "cooped" up so to speak. Could hens do this to each other? Or could they just now be reaching sexual maturity?

Also, what is the average age a cockerel silkie usually starts crowing?

Thanks.
