Can i ask how you know with the silkie? Love to learn!Silkie is a cockerel. Other two look like pullets but a bit too young to be sure.
Because silkies are slow to develop so if a 4 week old has that much comb it's definitely a male. There's more ways to tell as they grow but that's how I know with yours. Can i ask how you know with the silkie? Love to learn!![]()
thanks, unfortunately i can't keep the roo where i am. So will have to rehome him. But fingers crossed the other 2 are pulletsYes I would agree silkie is a roo, I had 9 silkies incubated hatch and had 3 roos and 6 females and studied them daily. I had to re-home the roos due to rules and with one of the boys let one of the hens go with him as they were close and didn't want him to go alone. Also the roos tend to make their neck long when looking around. Sorry don't know much about any other type of chicken. Hopefully you can keep your roo.
Thank you so much for that. Its something i can look at for future hatching. ThanksBecause silkies are slow to develop so if a 4 week old has that much comb it's definitely a male. There's more ways to tell as they grow but that's how I know with yours.
I just looked up the exact date the silkie hatched... its actually 5 weeks and 4 days old... make any difference? Or still a roo?...... (clutching at straws!)
