Rooster's wattle is swollen

The temperatures have been in the negatives here. Yesterday, he was eating and drinking but today when I checked the flock he wasn't moving and head was down. The wattles are swollen and hot to the touch. I did a warm compress to reduce swelling and put an herbal healing salve on the wattles. He took water from a syringe and his breathing is normal. Any ideas on how to treat naturally?

Just leave it alone, it's frostbite. Does he have to dip his wattles in water to drink? Looks like they got wet and then froze. Handling it is painful and just causes more damage. Poor guy, that looks really painful. It will take weeks to resolve but there's really nothing you can do to make it better. I'm so sorry. There are lots of threads on here now on this subject.

Poor Guy!

I wouldn't apply any more warm compresses or ointment to the swollen tissue, this can be painful and perhaps cause more damage.

Keep him relatively warm, not too hot.

Normally Frostbite will heal fairly well in time on its own and without much intervention or care, but with the massive amount of swelling of the wattles, earlobes and facial tissue (along with the comb), I'd consider administering an antibiotic to help with inflammation and possible secondary infection. Amoxicillin or Baytril would be good choices to give.

He's going to have a hard time drinking with the swelling. It's Extremely important to either tube or syringe fluids (and probably food) into him to keep him hydrated and his nutrition going until the swelling goes down and he begins to heal.
