Roosters won’t stop fighting

4 hens is not enough. I’d get at least four more hens so you’ll have 8. Even with 2 coops, 2 hens cannot be enough. They’ll overbreed.
Another thing I can do is section off the one coop. It has two doors- a main door for people to get in and a small door that goes into the run. If I divide it up with temporary wire, with one section including one of the doors to the outside, I can keep them apart without having to build a whole new coop. That, and getting a few more hens- if I can find some. If anyone knows someone in Maine looking to sell some hens, let me know. Not many people are often selling hens around here this time of year.

Have you searched Craigslist? It may have some hens.

Not yet, but I’m about to. I’ve only looked on Facebook marketplace right now. I’d guess Craigslist is more likely to have some.
Just popping in to say real quick that technically FB has a ban on animal sales. I'm sure some people manage to work around it, but yeah Craigslist or even checking your local feed store if they have a posting board.

Good to know! Thanks

Unless he is attacking hens you can probably give one away, They aren't mean. They are doing what roosters do when you have 2 that want to be alphas and not enough ladies.

I have 3 roosters but it works because I have 1 mellow almost full size cochin, 1 medium size Seabright and a small English rooster. They all know their place with no fighting and seem to work as a team. I know that would not happen if they were all the same size and disposition.

Unfortunately he is mean as well as just doing what roosters do when they’re together. He attacks people, too. The alpha is one of the sweetest roosters I’ve ever had; he has never attacked anyone. My 5 year old niece can pick him up. Meanwhile, beta rooster will go after anyone and anything. If he was at least friendly with people, I’d consider rehoming him.
With my friendly alpha roo, it would work if only the beta had a more calm disposition/wasn’t so vicious all the time. He’s always trying to pick a fight with the alpha. Amazing how two roosters can come from the same eggs but have totally different temperaments.
