Roosters

I just found out today that I have young rooster. I have 8 baby chickens, well there not babies anymore there about 6 months old but I still call them my babies. Anyways, I couldn't tell if any of them was roosters until today. I saw him jumping on my hens and he did not want to stop. He was jumping on them all day and it's very cold here right now and my chickens does not like this weather and my hens was getting frustrated with him. My oldest rooster (really don't know how old he is) I don't think he liked it either because he was the only rooster in the house. He was acting strange around the hens, he was pecking at the hens all day and he never does that. Is my oldest rooster going to have problems with the younger rooster?

Your rooster is sexually maturing. I usually separate them out when they become obnoxious. Having 2 roosters can be okay or a recipe for disaster depending on you set up and situation.

When spring gets closer and hormones start surging you could have troubles on your hands, and decisions to make.

How many chickens do you have? What are the dimensions of your coop and run?

Is he only harassing only his pullet flockmates or does his attentions include mature hens? It's unusual that a mature male isn't whipping manners into him along with the grown hens.

Since they are in confined quarters, it's time to put the adolescent jerk in jail. Maybe even with the other male to give the females a nice vacation.

I have 13 chickens. I really don't have a coop, it's fenced in. I think it's 12x12. I let them out of the morning and they go back in there house to roost at night. He is getting on the older hens. I have 4 older hens. The young rooster looks like he's grabbing there neck to hard. He just jumped on my hen that rules the other hens and she went back at him. my oldest rooster went after him too. I'm worried that this is going to be a problem with the roosters.

It seems like his hormones are raging right now. My hens are getting very frustrated with him. He seems to be getting on the older hens, not the young ones. Now my oldest rooster is getting frustrated too. He just went after him and the hen did too. I call her momma because she seems to rule all the other hens.

Some pics of your setup would be very helpful here to give folks a direction with their recommendations for you so you don't end up with an injured or dead bird.

Yes they have shelter but not like a coop. It's been so cold here, I've put garbage bags around it and put blankets up inside there house to keep the wind off of them but it's supposed to stay warm all week. My chickens are loving this weather.

I want to remind you all that these chickens were dropped off right above my house back in August and I didn't have much time or money to build a coop before winter got here.
