Roosters

So thanks to all the great help from you guys at byc I've come to the conclusion that I have two barred rock roosters....I don't know what to do with them because they've been raised together their entire lives and don't usually fight. They are about 3 months old and the worst they've done is stare at each other then fly away frantically. I don't want to get rid of one but don't want them to start fighting when older...

I also have 6 red sex links and 3 EEs if that helps anything.

So your 6 sex links and 3 EEs are hens, is that right? Normally you should only keep one rooster for every ten hens you own. Is it at all possible that two of these roosters are more of buddies and you can sell them? Your chicken yard will probably be hectic and stressful if you have three roosters for just 9 hens.

Unless you need fertile eggs for hatching or to sell, there is really no need for a rooster. The hens will continue to lay eggs , albeit non-fertile ones, and will be much less stressed with no roos harassing them all the time.

Hello, welcome to BYC!

If you really want a rooster, you could hold on to them both for a while and see if their behavior gets beyond the stink-eye stage. If they begin fighting each other and disrupting the flock, keep the one that is friendliest to you and re-home the other. You really don't want more than 1 roo for the number of hens you have or you'll end up with them overbreeding and stressing the girls. Or you could get more females and split your current flock into 2 separate ones...that may be the excuse you need to get more chickens!
