Are chickens happy to roost on the ground if its warm enough and plenty of ground litter

I've noticed some of my chickens sleep on the ground when it's really hot. Otherwise, the adults like to roost instead of being on the ground. At least that's how it is with my birds.

I think chickens prefer roosting up off the ground if the can. The higher the better but mine do stay on the ground most of the day but at night it's "up they go!!" and they fight over the high spots.
