We have a RP tom and a Bronze hen that refuse to use their turkey house. They prefer to sleep on our deck banister which is fine but they are sitting out in the pouring rain!! It's been raining relentlessly for the past day (SW WA state) and I'm worried about their poor rain soaked bodies. Is this normal and should I be concerned?

They never seem to do what you want them too. If they want to roost in the rain, let them. Turkeys are extremely water repellent. Their thick plumage acts like a rain coat and as wet as my wilds have been on the outside, the down underneath remains dry. As long as they can shed rain, they will be fine. On the other hand, if they are swimming, you'll be in trouble.

My birds take all the weather. Cold, rain, sleet and snow, just like their relatives in the wild. The only protection they get is from hot summer sun. Same goes for the domestics I have.

all 16 wilds will only come inside to eat and lay an egg, I have seen them blow off the perch just to jump back up when the wind let up ! but all the other birds take shelter tom!!
