Roosting issues!

So I have 5 chickens...all about 7 months old. We have a roosting bar that is about 4 ft long and is thick as a railing. The chickens are sleeping in thier nesting box! I tried a few times to place them on the bar but they keep going back to the nesting boxes (4 sleep in 1!). Any suggestions!? Is this normal?

Is the roosting bar higher than the nest boxes? Birds generally like to roost at the highest possible point.

once you've ensured that the roost is higher than the nest boxes, you may also wish to consider blocking off the nests in the evening or after your girls have laid.

The roosting bar is higher than the nesting boxes. I wonder if they don't like the size of it. I will try to block off thier nesting box this weekend and see if it helps.
