My chicks have realized the point of the coop is the highest spot for them to roost.I have been leaving the door to the coop open and they usually stay in. But recently they have been going up at night and trying to roost on the top of the chicken coop. I am worried they're going to fly out and my dogd may get them. Has anybody had this problem? The coop is small for them but I'm building a new one so I don't want to leave them trapped in there all night. Any help will be appreciated.

I had some friends whose chickens slept in the trees. But they didn't have dogs. You could try locking them up for a few nights in the coop.

Yeah I thought about that. I'm just worried they might try and do it during the day. My wife and I both work so we leave a dog door open so I don't want to come home to a dead bird

Netting. Don't know your set up. But netting over the top should keep them in.
