what thickness should roosting bars or planks be i heard that if they're to thin you'll get foot problems, my roosting bars are very thin about 4cm wide but they don't seem to mind i also have a hanging plank of wood that's about 15cm wide. ANY PICS ARE WELCOME i encourage that you do send some in.

My chickens roost on a 3 inch wide beam that's covered with plastic carpeting, like what you would find on a boat trailer. The rooster that I've had for 5 years now has slept on it every night his whole life, and has no foot problems at all. Just watch out for splinters on some of the rougher wood.

We have a tree branch about 6 centimeters (2+ inches) in diameter, and we have a 2 x 4 on it's side. That way they can either grip or flat foot it. Most of the time they prefer to grip, but in the winter we wanted them to be able to hunch down and cover their feet with their feathers if they want :)

, i spose my perches are a bit thin.

We have two 2" diameter dowels from Home Depot.

What the hubby did is drilled a screw halfway in on each side of the dowel (not the ends, about 1/2" from end), drilled a hole out at the bottom of the cut-outs on the brackets that the dowel sits in so that the dowel can easily be taken out and put back in place. The screw slides into the drilled out hole to which it will not spin on the girls. They are 8 weeks old and seem to have plenty of foot space, you can see them sleeping up there at night.

looks great, nice setup

Thanks! This pic is actually our just completed coop, before the shavings and the chickens. It was hard to move the girls in at first after all that work putting on the finishing touches, but they love it. I hope to soon put our build on BYC with as much info as we can.
