Roosting Polls & Droppings Boards - I need pics of YOURS!!!

mendogurl.. they poop 90% on the roost so having all the deep litter underneath the roosting boards is great. and i just use a dust pan to scoop it out every couple of months when it becomes mostly poo... i use the food grade d/e and it never stinks in there. and the girls love looking out the windows and getting the breeze when it is hot out.

Yes, natural is better, why because it is cheaper.

You can see mine on the blog it is set a 3 1.2 feet since I have a heavy breed. All you need to do is pick a 2 to 4 inch diamter branch to use for a perch. Of course I know not everyone has trees that can cut branches off of but maybe you know someone that does.

No dropping board since I am using deep litter method. Just have to fluff it once or more a week takes a min or two at most.

I have one wide poop board that is under both roosts. My nest boxes are underneath the poop board as well as a Disabled Roost for my blind hen Lucy. Now she doesn't get pooped on. The thing on the right is a two story rabbit hutch I use as grow-out pens.

Here is mine. The wire cage to the right is a dog pen that was in the coop for a time as an 'introduction pen' for new pullets being added to the flock.

I wasn't giving poop boards much thought because I didn't think there was all THAT much poo on a daily basis. I was replacing the pine shavings in my coop once a week. Soo I went to my wood shop and ripped a partial sheet of thin paneling I had on hand into strips to put under my roosts, just on the floor. Good golly!!!! I was shocked to see how much my 27 birds pooed over the course of one night. For a week now I've been putting them down in the evening while the flock is out to play, scraping the boards in the morning and setting them aside during the day. I'm now planning how I can install poo boards beneath my roosts and only have to scrape them in the mornings. My coop didn't smell much before but it doesn't smell at all now. I'm doing deep litter during the cold season for warmth and it's gonna be wonderful to have boards in place and only take a minute to scrape them clean and be done with my chores most days. My original coop was 8x8:

Put up some 2x4s with the fattest side up. Put a "ladder" in the corner and they also use the poop board to jump to the roosts. I even have large foul (Jersey Giant, etc) and they have no problems getting up or down. The boards are about 15 inches from each other and walls and ceiling.

Droppings board under most of the roost, doubles as food/water hanger, it's directly to the left of the ladder roost:

I put a long thick tree trunk hanging in the coop extension as a roost, but no one is using it currently... probably because it has no ladder or jump board.
