Roosts for chicks

I have two seperate brooders for different ages of chicks. In my larger wooden brooder which ironically has the younger chicks, we used a dowel rod screwed into two opposite sides.

Our larger chicks (4wks) are in a large rubbermaid and I was annoyed that a roost would take up so much of their floor space. Then while at Walmart in the pet section I noticed a roost for medium to large parrots. It's made of rope with wire and has screws on the ends made for screwing through the wire on bird cages. I had my husband get out the drill and put a hole in two opposite sides. I love it! They love it too! Every couple of days I bend the rope wire in a new direction and it's like it's a new toy every time! You might want to dry checking out the parrot section.

I would caution against the edible roosts. You never know what they're reallt made of

I put a large thick branch in mine when they were one week old, they LOVE it! Hang out on it all the time! I need to upgrade it to something off the ground soon, man they grow too fast!
