Roosts for chicks

You can attach wooden dowels from Home depot to the side of the coop or anything else that is wood and they can get up on them. I also saw where someone else had used 2x4's and made little feet for them and put them in their brooder.

This was the first roost - just two scraps of 2 x 4 with a little scrap across the top.

When we added an upside down basket (with cutouts), and a sturdy branch, they really got into the roosting

We actually just swapped the basket out for an old shelf we had (about 26" long, 1x4, raised up about 4"). They really, really love it. They will roost on just about anything. I raised their feed up on a 2x6 scrap, and they like to shove it aside so they can roost on the board, or on the feeder itself, really.

Our chicks started roosting at around 2 weeks old. We used dowels we had laying around the house and screwed them into our brooder. It got so popular we had to add another one!

we used a 2 foot long, 1 inch fence picket screwed to two chunks of 2x4. They love it. I just added a second one tonight because of all the shoving going on.

I added a small, 5 lb. hand wieght, they LOVE it! The 2 older ones are about a week old, I think...

I put my waterer in a tupperware container so that they keep it clean but it makes a good roost, I also put in a stick. I think this has helped my chick with folding feet as she has gotten stronger, this morning I couldn't even tell which chick it was!

I as well made a little roost for the brooder out of scrap wood - they loved it! They actually still have the original ones in the coop - they are 7 weeks old and not using the big roosts yet - here they are @ 2 weeks or so - -

I made a little 2 rung ladder out of 2x2's with the higher roost about 8" off the ground. My 6 babies are digging their new "playground".
