I have a 2x4 edgewise for roosting in my coop. I don't have chickens yet, but is that going to be wide enough?

mine are about 2 X 2 1/2 and my girls love there nesting boxes 2 foot wide and 2 1/2 foot long
My coop has 2X4s WIDE side up. Make the roosts easily removable, the benefits will be seen when coop cleaning time comes.
