Here is a bad pictures (I can try to get a better one) of my EE roo with pea comb, and an a picture of one of my EE hens pea comb, sorry I don't have any chickens with rose combs.
okay... The pea combs are pea shaped combs that lay flat on the chickens head, well sort of flat. Rose-combs are more up-right and larger. http://www.mypetchicken.com/Rosecomb_Bantam-B98.aspx
-That show the rosecombs on Rosecomb Bantams http://www.mypetchicken.com/Ameraucana-B5.aspx
-This is your Ameraucana with peacombs
You can tell there is a large difference, but they are both rounder than single and double combs...
Sorry I don't have any pictures to show you of my own
Dang, I wish I knew where my good camera was -- I'd take a bunch of pea comb pics for ya!
The "pea" comb is NOT like a single pea. Rather, it is kind of like a pea POD, or maybe tiny peas on strings. It has three bumpy ridges -- two very low outside ridges, plus a somewhat taller, round central ridge. The hen and roo have similar combs, with the roo mostly being larger and redder.
The "rose" comb is quite different in hen and roo. The hen has a smallish, flat shield-shaped comb. But the roo has many bumps on that shield, and the back of the shield may have a long extension on it.
Some rose combs lay flat and others do not--different standards for different breeds. However, pea combs are relatively narrow in shape and rose combs are considerably wider.
