Rosecomb RIR and Buckeye what the difference?

Just wondering as I have buckeyes and really like them.

They are 2 different breeds with very different type & different combs. What information are you looking for?

There 2 kinds of Rhode Island Reds...
There is the Single Come variety and a Rose Comb variety.
The Single Come variety is more common do to hatcheries breeding a hatchery style 'RIR' (very different for the real thing) the Rose Comb variety I think your going to have to get from a breeder I dont know of any hatcheries that have them...

I would think people would confused the two.

Rose Comb RIR's: Have Rose Comb.
Buckeye: Have a Pea Comb.
They also have different type.

Hi folks,

Just fwiw, I would imagine that the ALBC would prefer you not cut and paste too much info from their website here. Links are appropriate of course, and short bits, but wholesale cuts and pastes might be upsetting to them (all their website is copywritten you see.)

That being said, most of what was quoted here is available from a number of sources, so I think you'll be ok.

And fwiw, Mrs. Metcalf did not actually use RIRs in creating Buckeyes, although it is likely that some breeders have used them to cross in over the years.

Any other questions I can answer about Buckeyes?
