rotate litter into run?

Quote:
I was doing this (dumping the coop pine into the run) and it did smell after the
rain. The pine is too dense and holds moisture.

We buy wood chips from a local mulch guy for $15 a pickup truck load. They
have worked great. Since the chips are large the water flows freely through them.
They chickens can still scratch at it plus we add grass and stuff. We
turn the chips over burying the poop and uncovering bugs the chickies go
crazy for.

I simply add fresh pine shavings to my run every couple of days. I dump the roost tray into my composter about once a week. That's where the grubs are. Once a day I'll take a shovel full of compost and throw it in the run. YUMMY!

My chooks bed down on straw in their shed so when it gets time to change the straw i turf it out in the chook yard and leave it there for a while the chooks love it!
Also gives them something to do when they have to stay in for the day, i just throw there food into the straw and they spend all day scratching around in it.
From the yard the straw then goes on a pile and wet down to rot to go onto our vegie gardens.
No need to add extra manure..its already there!
