Is this possible? Ever since we have gotten chicks inside the house 3 out of 5 people in our house developed rotavirus. Can people get this from chickens or can they get it from us. I tell you, my first run at chicken farming is leaving a LOT to be desired.

I dont think so... but you never know...

there is a flu type bug going around all over the place right now you could have touched the door handle at walmart and then sneezed or touched a piece of gum while you put it in your mouth

Rotavirus is transmitted by the fecal-oral route, via contact with contaminated hands, surfaces and objects, and possibly by the respiratory route. The feces of an infected person can contain more than 10 trillion infectious particles per gram; only 10–100 of these are required to transmit infection to another person.

Rotaviruses are stable in the environment and have been found in estuary samples at levels as high as 1–5 infectious particles per US gallon. Sanitary measures adequate for eliminating bacteria and parasites seem to be ineffective in control of rotavirus, as the incidence of rotavirus infection in countries with high and low health standards is similar

so in other words... wash wash wash..

one person in the house could have brought it in and infected the rest of the household... i would not be to quick to blame the chickens

Good moroning! So sorry for the virus in the house. Seems that at least one of my kids has rotavirus every year on Christmas eve, and sometimes they are generous enough to share for additional holidays as well.
Rotavirus is spread human to human, is extremely contagious, and can sweep through a community (your church, your home, your kid's school - point is that the 'community' can be defined as either large or small scale) very quickly. Previous poster hit it - wash, wash. Clean tv remotes, faucets, toilet tank flusher thingy

, telephone handsets, refrig door opener, door handles, and anything else that gets touched frequently by people.
Good luck!

I read "rotavirus" and thought "little kids." Probably no comfort to you, but EVERY family I know with kids has had this visitor, typically during the preschool years.
