Rottweiler repeat ear problems

I find it odd that so many people, even in the next town over, are having gnat problems but I haven't seen a single gnat all year. Do they just avoid some places??

I'd suggest a raw diet for your dogs.

You say that you have tried different diets. Have any of them been grain free diets ? It helps to feed grain free diets in some cases.

Yes I have but I think I probably gave up too soon to tell if it worked.

I did feed him raw for a short time b4 he had this issue and he did do very well on it. Prob was I ha e to separate the two bc my other dog will stop at nothing to collect all the food I to one place for herself and she gets mad. And I was so busy. They both do fine with the feeder. But looks like desperate times call for desperate measures.

Gnats can cause ear infections, treat him with a permethrin spray to keep them at bay

This sounds like it could work I didnt think of gnats until now. But looking back it does happen more during gnat season and I forgot to mention he gets them in his eyes too so he also has gunk all around both eyes. I believe your on to something. Will definitely give it a try. Poor guy doesn't even act like it bothers him anymore.

I also bathe my dogs weekly with blue dawn dish washing liquid and it seems to help but sounds like your poor gal needs some extra protection

Yes they kind of Do avoid some areas if you dont have moving water near you and/or have a regular breeze then im sure you dont see them. Here on the bayous though it was War!

My dog had this also after my dog was 2.5 yrs old and I changed him to grain free. His ears started off scaly and red first, then his nail beds of his paws were seeping pus and bleeding, and he started getting bumps on his skin and then the hair there would fall off leaving a bald spot. His ears were so itchy he would scratch his ear with a foot and it would come out completely bloody. These symptoms happened not all at once, but after each vet visit he got more additions of problems. The vet continually gave me antibiotics orally, topically, and in cream form. I spent hundreds of dollars. The vet was so baffled she said I could take my dog to Pittsburgh for a biopsy and added that he will just be miserable for the rest of his life. She added to keep him out of water and off the grass.. which is a joke cause we live in the country with 3 ponds and on acreage. I researched on my own that dogs make their own amount of yeast in their bodies and some dogs cannot handle more yeast (which is most dog foods unless its Grain Free). I changed his food to Grain Free (nothing fancy, just generic) and in 2 weeks all his symptoms were GONE, but note it can take up to 1 month for dogs to completely clear the extra yeast from their system. We have had no problems since.

You said you changed foods, but didn't say to what.. so I thought I would share my story. My dog has an allergy to grain.. a lot of breeds (purebred) have allergies or end up developing them.

my dog has had ear problems for a few years now the vet said she is allergic to grass which she just happens to love to roll in she is permanently on steroids now one every other day its the only thing that works it might be something to try

Just wondering what food you went to. I used one from Walmart grain free I dont remember the name of it.
